Professional Background

Felicia Bates holds a Masters Degree in Public Health from the University of New England. Felicia is a certified START Coordinator and received the National Center for START Services'  START Clinical Team of the year award in 2017.Felicia worked as the Iowa-START Program Director for over 6 years, where she helped her team gain National Program Certification in 2020. Felicia has worked with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities for over 15 years. She began her career as a Direct Support Professional. This is where she found her passion for serving, supporting, and advocating for those with IDD. Felicia is a Project Facilitator for the National Center for START Services. She works with START Programs throughout the United States to support their implementation, development, and ultimately START Program Certification. Felicia is also a facilitator for the Coordinator Training Group, where she helps new START coordinators learn their role, understand and apply the START Model, and gain Coordinator Certification. Additionally, Felicia also assists  NCSS's Quality Assurance and Research Departments. Felicia is interested in leadership and organizational development. In her free time, Felicia enjoys spending time with her family, exercising, and traveling.
